Alt text for images

Describe what a picture shows, once, and it is sent to every network that accepts a description.

Adding a description

  1. Open Library and open the image.
  2. Under Description, write what is in the image. Describe the picture, not the caption.
  3. Press Save description.

Where it goes

The description is sent with the image to Instagram, Threads, X, Bluesky, LinkedIn and Mastodon, and screen readers read it aloud. Facebook does not receive it. Pinterest has its own alt text field on the post, in the composer.
