Shortening links and adding UTM tags
Short links you own, so every tap out of a caption is counted, with campaign tags added on the way out.
Why a short link
Networks strip the query string off a URL, rewrap it, or never report what happened after a tap. A short link on our domain is the one place a click out of a network can be counted.
Making one
- Open Links and find Make one.
- Choose a short name. The link becomes /go/ followed by that name.
- Paste where it goes, starting with https://.
- Optionally fill Campaign source and Campaign name. They are added to the address as UTM tags when somebody taps through.
- Copy the link into a caption, or open it for its QR code.
From the composer
Press Shorten links in the composer to turn every link in a caption into a tracked link in one go. Each network gets its own utm_source, so your analytics can tell the traffic apart.
What is counted
Every tap is counted at the redirect, with the site it came from. No IP address, device or visitor identifier is recorded. Scanning the QR code counts the same as a tap.
Archiving a link stops it working and keeps the short name yours. Deleting it frees the name for anybody.
