Connecting your accounts, network by network
Where to connect
Every connection starts on Settings, then Connections. Each network has a card, and before you are sent anywhere the card lists what that network needs. Most networks send you to their own sign-in page. Bluesky and Mastodon ask you to paste a credential instead. Whichever it is, we never receive your password.
Connecting accounts is an owner or admin job.
The Instagram account has to be a Business or Creator account, linked to a Facebook Page you administer. No interface Instagram offers can publish to a personal account. To switch, open the Instagram app, go to Settings, change the account type, then link it to your Page.
You sign in at Facebook, not at Instagram, because Instagram accounts reach us through the Pages they are linked to. On Facebook's permission screen, tick every Page whose Instagram account you want to connect.
Facebook authorises a person, and the Pages come with them, so the Facebook profile you are signed into is the one that gets connected. Your role on a Page has to be Full control for us to publish to it: an Editor can write posts inside Facebook and cannot let another app publish for them.
Threads
Threads has its own sign-in and its own permission screen, even though Meta owns both. Connecting Threads does not connect Instagram, and connecting Instagram does not connect Threads.
TikTok
The TikTok account you are signed into is the one that gets connected. The connection dialog says, before you continue, how posts from this app currently reach TikTok. When you schedule a TikTok post, the composer reads your account's settings live and asks you to choose who can see it and whether others may comment, duet or stitch.
X
X charges for every post sent through its API, so connecting X needs the Starter plan or above. Your plan sets a monthly ceiling on what X may cost, and the billing screen shows the most X can have cost this month. At the ceiling, X publishing pauses until the month resets and every other network carries on.
We ask X for permission to post and for nothing else: no direct messages, no follower lists, no following or blocking on your behalf.
This connects your personal LinkedIn profile, and posts go out as you. A LinkedIn Company Page cannot be connected here.
A LinkedIn connection lasts 60 days and cannot renew itself, because LinkedIn gives background renewal only to approved partners. Reconnect it from Connections when it expires.
YouTube
You sign in with a Google account, and every channel under that account arrives as its own row: personal channels and Brand Accounts alike. Disconnect the ones you do not want afterwards.
A post to YouTube is a video and only a video, so a YouTube post needs exactly one video attached. The channel's row on Connections says whether uploads from this app go out public or private.
A Pin is a picture: an image, a carousel of up to five images, or a video with an image beside it as its cover. Every picture in a carousel has to be the same shape, and the composer checks that before you queue one.
Pins go to a board, which you choose on each post. If you leave the board picker alone, the Pin goes to the first board Pinterest lists. An account with no boards cannot publish, so create a board on Pinterest first.
Impressions and saves come back only for a Pinterest business account, which is free to switch to in Pinterest's own settings. A personal account publishes normally and reports nothing.
Bluesky
- Open Bluesky, then Settings, then Privacy and security, then App passwords.
- Add an app password and name it something you will recognise, such as the name of this workspace.
- On the Bluesky card in Connections, enter your handle and paste the app password, which looks like xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx. Never use your account password.
- Leave the server blank unless you host your own Bluesky server.
Mastodon
- On the Mastodon card, enter your server first: the part of your address after the second @, such as mastodon.social.
- Sign in to that server in a browser, then open Preferences, then Development. The button in the dialog takes you straight there.
- Choose New application and give it a name you will recognise. Leave the website blank and the redirect address as it is.
- Tick exactly four scopes: read:accounts, read:statuses, write:statuses and write:media. Save.
- Open the application, copy the value shown as Your access token, and paste it into the dialog.
When a connection stops working
A connection that expires or loses a permission is marked on Connections with the reason, and reconnecting from its card fixes it. You can also get an email the moment it happens: see email alerts.
