Posting a thread

Where it works

Threads work on X, Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon. If the same post also goes to another network, that network gets the first post alone, and the composer says which ones those are.

Writing a thread

1. Write the first post in the caption box as usual.
2. Press Add to thread, under the caption counters. It appears when a ticked account can thread.
3. Write each following part in its own box. Each part has its own character counter, measured against the tightest limit among the ticked accounts.
4. Reorder parts with move up and move down, or remove one. A thread can have up to 20 parts after the first.
5. Schedule the post. The parts are posted as replies, in order, right after the first post goes live.

Parts after the first are text only for now.

On X every part is a billed post, and the whole thread is checked against your X allowance before the first one is sent.

If the thread stops partway, the post shows which parts landed and why it stopped. When the reason is fixed, press Post the rest of the thread. A part whose answer was lost is never sent again, so check the account first if the post says one may already be live.
